However, you may notice that some of the following 'motivational' quotes aren't quite as motivational as they first seem...
1) Parent quote
To start things off, here's an embarassed looking cat that looked a good fit for the accompanying quote.
"Don't be ashamed of who you are. That's your parents job!"
Editor's note: "In all seriousness, I think it's far better to bring honour to your parents, rather than embarrass them."
Charles: "Yes, I agree, but to clarify, this week's quotes aren't intended as serious advice."
Editor: "And also, shame can be quite appropriate for some evil people. It can be the first step towards them turning over a new leaf."
Charles: "Yes, I agree, but once again, this week's quotes are just intended as lighthearted daftness."
Editor: "Oh, right. I won't offer any more serious commentary, then."
Charles: "Thank you."
2) Optimistic defeatist quote
This next quote is technically true, but that doesn't make it good advice.
"The sooner you get behind, the more time you have to catch up."
3) Tiger quote
Motivational speakers: "You can achieve anything. You have a tiger in you."
The tiger in me...
An overweight tiger, pictured yesterday. |
In all seriousness, how did it ever get that big? Were the zoo keepers feeding it a diet of sugar and man-made cooking oils?
Editor: "Charles, I thought you said this wasn't a place for serious commentary."
Charles: "Yes, but I'm a hypocrite, so it's okay when I do it."
4) Darth Vader quote
Here's an inspirational quote about leadership from Darth Vader...

"Strong people don't put people down. They lift them up."
...Darth Vader, Philanthropist
Quite literally, in Darth Vader's case.
Perhaps he should be called Darth Moti-Vader.
5) Fish quote
This next quote is a variation on a famous inspirational quote with a surprise twist...
"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day.
Give a man a poisoned fish, and you feed him for the rest of his life."
This is another quote which is technically true, but once again that doesn't make it good advice!
6) Homer quote
Homer Simpson probably isn't the first name that springs to mind when you think of inspirational figures, and that's perfectly demonstrated by this piece of advice that he gave to Bart:
Bart: "This is the worst day of my life!"
Homer: "The worst day of your life ... so far."
7) Bridge quote
The following quote could perhaps have been worded slightly better in order to avoid any unintended interpretations.
"Don't follow your friends off a bridge. Lead them."
Lead them off a bridge? Or just lead them in general?
8) History quote
All of the quotes so far have been silly and lighthearted, but to round things off here's a serious quote which somehow managed to slip past the silliness quality control department...
"Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it."
That's true. It took me three attempts to pass my History GCSE. #NotReally
