Be positive

September 13th is National Positivity Day, so this week the Charles Fudgemuffin blog focuses on people* with a positive attitude.

* And twigs.

1) Celebratory sprig

To start things off, I love the positive attitude of this twig.

"Hurray! I'm a twig!"

2) The harder the journey

Next up is a photo I've featured before on the Charles Fudgemuffin blog, but it's so inspiring that it's definitely worth a reminder. It's a photo taken when I was climbing up Mount Kinabalu in Borneo. Myself and all the other backpackers in our group were feeling completely tired and worn out when we passed a determined man carrying a massive water tank on his back up the mountain.

"The harder the journey, the more rewarding the arrival."

The sight of this inspiring man put our own tiredness into perspective, and gave us all an extra spring in our step. We all gave the man shows of appreciation, cheers of encouragement and plenty of thumbs up, but as you can see, he wasn't really in a position to stop and chat!

Anyway, to repeat the quote, "The harder the journey, the more rewarding the arrival."

As you can see from the photo, the water tank was massive, so it was an incredibly hard journey for the man, and it must therefore have been extremely rewarding when he eventually made it to the overnight camp (approximately 2 miles up the mountain).

3) Putting the fun in funeral

I'm all for being happy and being positive, but there's a time and a place...

Because you can't spell 'funeral' without 'fun!

4) Happiness is a state of mind

Ayrton Senna once said, "You race to win. Second or third place is not enough."

The kid on the right in this next photo respectfully disagrees.

When you see how happy the kid who finished third was, just imagine how delighted he would have been if he had actually won!

5) Paraphrasing JFK

Next up, here's a motivational quote with a twist in the tail...

"We do this not because it is easy, but because we thought it would be easy."

6) Be grateful

Finally, I'm not sure where I originally found this, but big respect to whoever wrote this very positive list demonstrating how perceived negatives can actually be a sign of the many things in our lives to be grateful for.

Grateful for...

1) Early wake-ups = Children to love

2) House to clean = Safe place to live

3) Laundry = Clothes to wear

4) Dishes to wash = Food to eat

5) Crumbs under the table = Family meals

6) Grocery shopping = Money to provide for us

7) Toilets to clean = Indoor plumbing

8) Lots of noise = People in my life

9) Endless questions about homework = Kids' brains growing

10) Sore and tired in bed = I'm still alive!
