Misleading thumbnails (part 2)

Unfortunately I didn't have any photos of
a misleading thumbnail, so here's a photo of
a regular non-misleading thumbnail instead.
Do you like quizzes?
Do you like thumbnails?
Do you like being misled?

If your answer to those questions is yes*, then good news! This week's blog post should be right up your alley, as it features a quiz, the quiz involves thumbnails, and those thumbnails are misleading!

* Even if you don't like being misled, which I presume applies to most normal people, then you should hopefully still appreciate this week's quiz, as the misleading thumbnails are only included to provide a mental challenge, not to cause injury, loss or embarrassment.

Anyway, this week's blog post is a quiz featuring misleading thumbnails. All you have to do is take a look at the following thumbnails and guess whether the description is accurate, or whether it's just a sneaky bluff. If the image is a misleading thumbnail, then award yourself a bonus point if you can guess what it really is.

1) Proud mother cat with her litter of kittens

To start things off with a fairly easy one, the first thumbnail is a photo of proud mother cat with her litter of kittens.

But is it really a proud mother cat and her kittens, or is it just a deceptively misleading thumbnail?

True or false?

2) Cute baby piglet

Sticking with an animal theme, this next thumbnail shows a cute baby piglet lying on a bed.

But is it really a cute baby piglet, or could it perhaps actually be something else?

True or false?

3) Yellow crescent moon

The next thumbnail is a photo of a yellow crescent moon shimmering in the sky.

But could perhaps that just be a bluff, when in actual fact the photo is really something entirely different?

True or false?

4) City on the banks of a river

I presume this next photo was taken from an aeroplane as it was coming in to land, or maybe it was taken by a drone. Anyway, however the photo was taken, it's a photo of a city built on the banks of a river.

But is it really a city, or could it perhaps just be a small town? Or perhaps a tiny village? Or maybe it's something else entirely.

True or false?

5) Japanese geisha

I'm feeling in a generous mood, so for the next thumbnail I've decided to make it fairly straightforward. As you can see, it's a photo of a Japanese geisha.

But does the photo really show a Japanese geisha, or is that perhaps not the full story?

True or false?

6) Cactus wearing googly eyes reading a dictionary

Finally, this last thumbnail is a fairly common sight. It's a cactus wearing googly eyes reading a dictionary.

But is that really what the full sized photo shows, or is it just a deceptively misleading thumbnail?

True or false?

Scroll down the page to find out which thumbnail description were truthful, and which were deceptively misleading thumbnails...

Answers:

In actual fact, only one of the thumbnail descriptions was totally accurate. The other five were misleading thumbnails, as revealed in the following full size photos.

1) Proud mother cat with her litter of kittens: False

Credit: reddit

It was indeed a cat, but they're not sleeping next to their litter of kittens. They're actually snoozing next to a tray of croissants. So if you said true, then award yourself a half point, because at least you got the cat right, so technically you were half right.

2) Cute baby piglet: False

To be fair, this one isn't just a misleading thumbnail. It's also a misleading full size photo! However, if you look closely, you can see that it's actually a cute dog, rather than a cute piglet, and the dog has it's head turned to one side, so that its ear looks a little bit like a piglet's snout.

3) Yellow crescent moon: False

This was yet another misleading thumbnail. As you can see, it's actually a bridge with its reflection shimmering in the river. It's a very cool photo, even if it's not the real moon.

4) City on the banks of a river: False

It does look vaguely like a city on a river, even at full size, but it's actually a circuit board.

5) Japanese geisha

Credit: Vincent Magni

As you can see, some talented artistic person (Vincent Magni) has cleverly placed different coloured books on bookshelves to create an image of a geisha. However, as I'm feeling in a generous mood, award yourself a point whether you said true or false, because technically the photo does show a Japanese geisha, even if she's not a real one.

6) Cactus wearing googly eyes reading a dictionary: True

This was the only real thumbnail description. The full size photo does indeed show a cactus wearing googly eyes reading a dictionary.

It's always wise to expand our vocabulary, so I say top respect to that perspicacious cactus!
