Inappropriate backgrounds

One of the features of facebook is that it allows users to post a status update accompanied by a colourful illustrated background. This can be a nice way to add a cheerful or eye-catching image to a message. However, it can also lead to amusing occasions when people accidentally select a mismatched background which doesn't quite fit with the tone of their status update.

This week the Charles Fudgemuffin blog highlights a few such examples...

1) Happy background

"What happened at Walmart? I was there at 5:11pm. Did someone die?"

"Congratulations!"

Balloons and cake! The perfect way to celebrate someone possibly dying!

2) Laughing background

"In need of a wheelchair."

"Ha, ha! Hilarious!"

I have to admit, if I was involved in a serious accident that left me in need of a wheelchair, I probaby wouldn't find it quite as hilarious as the person above.

3) Christmas background

"As we sat down to dinner last night, we had two men on bikes ring our bell saying they were German exchange students and can they camp on our lawn?"

"Merry Christmas!"

Christmas decorations? For a post about German exchange students wanting to camp on your lawn?

Yes, whenever two German exchange students ring on my door asking if they can camp on my lawn, it always puts me in a Christmas mood too!

4) Confusing background

This next one is slightly different, in that it isn't a status update. It's an item for sale on facebook marketplace. However, the accompanying image is definitely just as strange as all the rest.

"Tick, tock!"

That's a strange looking clock!

I presume it can talk, then? I presume it just sits there and tells you the time whenever you ask it?

5) Celebratory background

"I think I've been hacked."

"Hooray!"

What exactly was going though this person's mind when they were deciding which background to choose?

'Hmm, I think my account may have been hacked. What would be a suitable background to go with my update? I know! A fireworks celebration!'

6) Miserable background

Finally, from an accidentally happy background to an accidentally grumpy background.

"To everyone who took the time to wish Faustinah and myself a happy wedding anniversary, thank you each and every one of you."

"Sigh! Well, we survived another year."

At least, I hope it was accidental.

This is my first blog post on inappropriate backgrounds, so if you're looking for more, I'm afraid you're out of luck. However, I have featured posts on the theme of facebook before, and you can find a couple below:
