When links aren't quite what they seem...

Anyone who follows me on facebook or twitter may have noticed that I'm often in a silly mood, so over the last few months I've been posting the occasional silly status.

Each of the following statuses makes a supposedly sensible claim, and is accompanied by a link providing further information. However, when you click the link you discover that although the original claims are true, they're nevertheless not always quite what you might expect...

1) First up is a status which will appeal to internet users looking for a foolproof method to get free wifi. However, it involves dubious methods ... or does it?

New Year's resolutions for 2015

Last year I made five New Year's resolutions, and managed to succeed with four of them, so this year I'm going to see if I can go one better and make it five out of five successful New Year's resolutions. Here are my resolutions for 2015...

1) Publish a short story

This was the one resolution which let me down last year. However, I recently finished the first draft of one short story, and whereas my first full length book deals with an evil genocidal plot, things are more low key in this short story. It's a simple everyday 'slice of life' story, and it features minor characters from my previous books. Hopefully I'll get it published later in the year.

Would you rather?

'Would you rather?' A blog of dilemmas.

Anyone who’s ever read my early scifi books will know that the main character is a big fan of the 'would you rather?' game. By a strange coincidence, I’m also a big fan of 'would you rather?' myself, and so I recently decided to start a new blog dedicated to that theme.

Some of the 'would you rather?' dilemmas featured on the blog are inspired by 'would you rather?' scenarios featured in my books, while others are entirely new scenarios. Each 'would you rather?' question takes the form of a poll, and to give you an example of the sort of dilemmas you can find on the 'would you rather?' blog, the first few dilemmas include questions such as:

'Would you rather win the lottery of cure malaria from the world?'

'Would you rather find out how you die or when you die?'

I'm happy to announce that there's now also another new addition to the Charles Fudgemuffin family of blogs, namely Tomorrow's Technology Today, and as the name suggests Tomorrow’s Technology Today focuses on exciting breakthroughs in the world of technology.

There are plenty of websites out there featuring the latest iPods, mobile phones and cameras though, so Tomorrow’s Technology Today will therefore steer clear of stories reporting on a slightly newer model television with marginally improved picture clarity and better sound quality. Instead Tomorrow’s Technology Today will only feature reports on truly groundbreaking inventions, innovational gadgets and revolutionary scientific developments which could potentially go on to make a big impact on the world we live in.

Recycling old rubbish.

I’m a firm believer in recycling, so when I recently read a post on another blog discussing the concept of a ‘sneeze’ page, whereby you basically recycle your most popular old posts to create a fresh new compilation post, I was instantly intrigued. As well as the green aspect, my lazy side was also attracted by the thought of reusing old material, and so after reading the article I decided to compile my own sneeze page.

So on that note, here are five of my favourite posts to have previously appeared on the Charles Fudgemuffin blog:

1) 10 cool internet Easter eggs

This post features a selection of weird hidden features (known as Easter eggs) found on the internet, and at the time of writing it gets more page views via Google than any other post on my blog. It features some reasonably well-known Easter Eggs such as the YouTube snake and facebook hidden languages, but also showcases some less well-known internet Easter eggs such as an amusing website reporting on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and there’s also a mention for a little known trick found on wikipedia.

Over the last few months as I’ve explored the various websites and blogs on the web dedicated to helping authors promote their work, one thing I’ve felt would be a useful addition to the selection of promotional websites out there, but which I couldn’t seem to find, was a blog dedicated to providing interviews which authors can themselves personalise. After all, the person who knows an author's work best is generally the author themselves, so if you’re doing an interview then I think it makes sense to allow authors as much flexibility as possible on how best to introduce readers to their writing.

Anyway, spotting this gap in the blogosphere I decided to take things into my own hands and therefore recently launched a new blog called Author Quiz where I feature interviews which authors can personalise. Thankfully, so far it seems to have met with a positive response as several authors have submitted personalised interviews which I’ve featured on the blog. Interviews published so far have included authors from various genres including humour, paranormal, adventure, science fiction, mystery and romance, and I hope to feature authors from as varied a range of genres as possible.
