Funny name changes by deed poll (part 2)

Thousands of people in the UK change their name by deed poll every year. In most cases it's because of marital reasons, but in some cases, the person in question has simply decided to bring a bit of fun and humour to life! Personally, I don't see why people can't just stick to ordinary normal names like myself, Charles Fudgemuffin.

"Spam, spam, spam, spam..."
Anyway, this week on the Charles Fudgemuffin blog it's time for another round-up of funny name changes by deed poll...

1) Mark I Love Spam

Monty Python loved spam so much that they wrote a sketch and a song about it, but the Monty Python team aren't the only ones who love spam. A man formerly called Mark Benson loves spam so much that he changed his name by deed poll to Mark I Love Spam.

Apparently, his wife is also a fan of spam, because Mark and his wife, Mr And Mrs I Love Spam got married at the Spam museum in America.

The Queen's park rangers.*

2) Queens Park Rangers

A father and son were such big fans of the football club 'Queens Park Rangers' that they both decided to change their names to ... Queens Park Rangers.

Things must get confusing at Christmas time when they're opening the presents, and they're both marked Queens Park Rangers.

*Editor: "Charles, it's not 'the Queen's park rangers'. It's the football club ... 'Queens Park Rangers'!"
Charles: "Oops! Sorry!"

3) Adam West

Batman, played by Adam West in the 60s TV show.
For a joke, Adam Armstrong changed his name on facebook to Adam West, after the name of the actor who played Batman in the 60s TV show.

However, the joke backfired when his girlfriend's dad booked for them to go on holiday with RyanAir, under his facebook name of Adam West. RyanAir are famous for increasing their profits by charging their customers additional extras, and true to form they demanded an extortionate £220 to change the booking to his correct name, otherwise they wouldn't let him fly!

However, Adam outwitted the scamsters at RyanAir when instead of paying the £220, he instead simply changed his name by deed poll to Adam West, then got a new passport for £103, saving himself a grand total of £117!

4) Emperor Thrash and Baron Grind

Adam Armstrong showed fan dedication when he changed his name to Adam West, but Daniel Knox-Hewson and Kelvin Borbidge went even further when they gave themselves names which included the names of super heroes, Star Wars characters, video game characters, and even Transformers and He-Man characters!

Daniel changed his name to Emperor Spiderman Gandalf Wolverine Skywalker Optimus Prime Goku Sonic Xavier Ryu Cloud Superman Heman Batman Thrash.

Kelvin is now known as Baron Venom Balrog Sabretooth Vader Megatron Vegeta Robotnik Magneto Bison Sephiroth Lex Luthor Skeletor Joker Grind.

Shaken, not stirred.

5) Miss Moneypenny

Emma Louise Hodges was such a big fan of James Bond that she changed her name by deed poll to Miss Moneypenny.

But she didn't stop there. She also gave herself a long list of Bond-themed middle names including Domino (from Thunderball), Xenia (from GoldenEye), and Octopussy (from Octopussy).

6) None Of The Above Zero

Eric Mutch changed his name by deed poll for amusing political reasons to None Of The Above Zero. He stood as a candidate in the Filton and Bradley Stoke constituency, and in the UK political candidates are listed by their surname first, so he was listed on the ballot paper as 'Zero, None Of The Above'.

If he had won, Eric, or rather, None Of The Above planned to resign immediately, so in effect he was giving the voters an opportunity to vote for 'None of the above'! Unfortunately he only got 172 votes, so in the end it was lot of effort for nothing, but he did at least provide an amusing moment of humour for people who voted.

7) Happy Adjustable Spanners

Happy's brother, Angry Adjustable Spanner.

So far we've looked at people who changed their names for financial reasons, fan dedication reasons, and fun reasons, but this next name change was for drunken reasons.

Daniel Westfallen decided to change his name for a laugh after a drunken night out. All of his friends thought of silly names, then Daniel picked one at random, and the name he picked was was Happy Spanners. Daniel's boss, or rather Happy's boss, got to choose a middle name and went for 'Adjustable', giving Daniel the name of Happy Adjustable Spanners!

Live for nothing, or die for something. Your call.

8) John Rambo

Finally, Stephen O'Rourke was such a big Sylvester Stallone fan that he changed his name by deed poll to that of one of Stallone's most famous characters; Rambo!

According to John Rambo (formerly Stephen O'Rourke), the name 'Rambo' is very approrpiate as he says, "I really am the real life Rambo. Generally people think twice about what they say to me. Nobody messes with me!"

So be warned! Mess with Rambo at your peril!
