Name fits job (part 2)

A topic I've featured before on the Charles Fudgemuffin blog is the subject of aptronyms, and as regular Charles Fudgemuffin readers may remember, an aptronym is a 'name which is appropriate for its owner'.*

* Or if you're clever, you might have known that anyway, even if you don't read the Charles Fudgemuffin blog!

Anyway, there are many more people in the world who have names which fit their jobs, so here's another round-up of aptronyms...

"Say cheese fromage!"

1) Mr Fromage the French cheese maker

Bruno Fromage was the former Managing Director of Danone, a food company that makes cheese and other dairy products!

To make Mr Fromage's name even more appropriate, Danone are a French company!

2) Mr Toothman the dentist

Barth Toothman is a dentist from Ohio who runs the Toothman Dental Group. I wonder if his patients realise that Toothman is actually his real name and not just a marketing gimmick!

3) Mr Moneymaker the poker player

The Charles Fudgemuffin blog does not promote gambling,
so here's a more representative picture of Mr Moneyloser.
Chris Moneymaker is an American poker player who won $2.5 million when he became the 2003 World Series of Poker champion!

Rather controversially, Mr Moneymaker wrote a book called 'Bet Big To Win Big'. You may assume that the book was controversial because it encouraged people to bet big ... and you'd be right. However, what made the book even more controversial was the fact that 'Bet Big To Win Big' was a kid's book!

Seriously, what were the publisher's thinking!?

Apparently, the book taught basic mathematics, and 'life principles'. Given that one of those life principles apparently involved teaching kids to 'bet big' I can understand why the book was so controversial!

Legal note: Readers should be aware that for most poker players, the surname Moneyloser would be more appropriate, as my own experiences can testify.

4) Mr Inkpen the author

Mick Inkpen is a writer of children's books, and his most famous character is a pig called Wibbly Pig, apparently. I have to admit I've never heard of Wibbly Pig, but Wibbly Pig certainly sounds a lot more appropriate for kids than 'Bet Big To Win Big'!

Apparently, Wibbly Pig was made into a TV series, and has sold millions of books worldwide, so presumably Mr Inkpen made a lot of royalties. So he's Inkpen by name, money maker by nature!

Blizzard by name. Blizzard Meteorologist by nature.

5) Ms Blizzard the weather presenter

Sara Blizzard is a weather forecaster who works for the BBC.

Let's hope her weather forecasts are more accurate than most of the propaganda you see on the BBC!

6) Ms Webb the spider expert

Ann Webb is a spider expert. In fact she loves spiders so much that she started the world's first tarantula society which hosts an annual tarantula exhibition. The very first tarantula exhibition only received a handful of visitors, but it has grown in popularity so much that at the most recent event around 2,000 people turned up to see over 30,000 tarantulas!

Ann Webb has also written a book on tarantulas, so she's Webb by name, spider expert by nature. #SoClose

7) Carrie Oakey the singer

If you're looking to hire a singer, then there's a singer on LinkedIn by the name of 'Carrie Oakey'!

Carrie Oakey.
Not to be confused with karaoke.
I suspect this is probably just someone having a bit of fun, rather than a real person, but it amused me nonetheless.

8) Bob the Builder, the builder

Finally, fans of children's TV may remember the popular kids TV show, Bob The Builder, featuring the character Bob the Builder. By a bizarre coincidence, Bob the Builder was actually a builder!

So he was Builder by name, builder by nature!
