Accidental Partridge

Alan Partridge returned to our screens recently with another series of This Time, but sadly this week it comes to an end. So for any Alan Partridge fans out there, here are a few examples of Accidental Partridge to keep you going until series three.

At the end of the article you can vote for your favourite Accidental Partridge example, and to start things off here's a classic Accidental Partridge example from The Guardian...

1) "A cup of tea is a hot, wet, aromatic Swiss army knife"

I'm not sure the metaphor really works, which to be fair, only makes it even more of a contender for Accidental Partridge!

Despite the ridiculousness of the headline, it still makes more sense than anything else ever published by The Guardian.

2) "What animal could you beat in a fight?"

This was a genuine question that appeared in a YouGov survey, and it's so Accidental Partridge that the survey could almost have been written by Alan Partridge himself.

Incredibly, 6% of women and 7% of men think they could beat a grizzly bear in a fight! And that's if they were unarmed!

3) "Have you ever found a household item in an unusual place?"

I can just imagine Alan asking his listeners this question during an episode of Mid Morning Matters...

"Helen Newman from Newcastle discovered her husband had put daffodils in the fridge, thinking they were spring onions. Have you ever found a household item in an unusual place?"

It sounds as if Alan Partridge may secretly have taken over the Good Morning Britain twitter account.

4) "Britton's Got Tarrant"

This next example came from Keith Chegwin, but I can just imagine Alan dictating this idea for a TV show into his dictaphone...

"Idea for a TV show. Chris Tarrant kidnapped by Fern Britton. Britton's Got Tarrant."

I'm not sure it would make for quite as gripping TV as Monkey Tennis or Inner-City Sumo, but it's still a great idea nonetheless!

5) Celebrity Ghost Stories with Sue Cook

This next example sounds like one of the crazy TV show ideas that Alan might have pitched to a TV producer, but it was an actual TV show that actually got made.

"Sue Cook reveals creepy encounters with a malevolent spirit, Toyah Wilcox speaks of a spooky apparaition, and Alex Fearns discusses sinister sounds he once caught on tape."

On seeing this crazy TV show, I can't help but be reminded of Alan's prediction, "If you don't make it, Sky will."

6) The Big Plate

Finally, here's an example which I'm pretty sure was quite deliberate, rather than accidental, but as it pays homage to Alan Partridge I thought it deserved a mention anyway...

"Got your big plate, Alan?"

"Eat as much as you like but from an 8 inch plate. See that? 12 inches. Keep it in my room."
