Funny horse names: A true or false quiz (part 2)

This weekend sees the Grand National take place, which for the benefit of non-English people is the biggest horse race of the year in England.

Although I'm not really interested in horse racing, I do appreciate some of the amusing names that some horses have. This week's blog post therefore has a horse racing theme in the form of a quiz. Take a look at the following horse names, and try to decide if they are real actual horse names, or whether they're just a daft fictitious invention that I made up.

1) Hoof Hearted

Hoof Hearted denies being responsible for the suspicious smell.

Back in the early 2000s, there was a South African horse with the rather immature name Hoof Hearted.

In case you're wondering why exactly Hoof Hearted was an immature name, ask yourself what question you would ask if there was an unpleasant smell?

A new season of the Premier League starts this weekend, so it's become something of a tradition on the Charles Fudgemuffin blog to start the new season with a football themed blog post.

Football brings happiness to millions.
That's a fact!

This week is no different as I feature a collection of football themed facts. All you have to do is guess which of the 'facts' are true, and which are entirely made up.

Let's start things off with an easy one which I'm sure should be obvious to everyone.

Cool foreign words (part 2)

I've featured a 'cool foreign words' true or false quiz before on the Charles Fudfemuffin blog, but there are so many cool foreign words that I decided to create a follow up quiz!

Once again, take a look at the following eight words from eight different languages, and see if you can work out whether the alleged foreign words are real, or whether I've just made them up...

1) Hedgehog = Spiky rat

In Iceland they apparently don't have a very high opinion of hedgehogs, because the Icelandic word for hedgehog is 'skitugrotta' which literally translates as spiky rat! I can obviously see where the spiky comes from, but in my opinion hedgehogs are far too nice to be compared with rats.

I often like to feature true or false quizzes on the Charles Fudgemuffin blog, and something else that features frequently on the blog is words. In fact, every blog post I've ever published has included lots of words!

So this week, I've decided to combine the two, and feature a true or false quiz about words!

You would expect a horse named Windsorlot to win a lot, but sadly Windsorlot has failed to win any of its last 15 races.¹ Perhaps it should be renamed Losesalot.

Silliest cryptocurrency names

If you ask someone to name a cryptocurrency, most people would probably say, "bitcoin." Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, and its name is perfectly logical. It's a digital currency made up of digital 'bits', so 'bitcoin' is the perfect name.

However, not all cryptocurrencies have such sensible names. Unlike myself, the very sensibly named Charles Fudgemuffin, many cryptocurrencies have rather silly and unusual names.

This week the Charles Fudgemuffin blog takes a look at some of the weirdest and silliest cryptocurrency names out there, but as I commonly like to do, to make things more interesting I've turned it into a 'true or false' quiz. True or false: Old fashioned insults (part 2)

It's National Insult Day in a few days' time*, so that means it's time for another insult themed true or false quiz! Take a look at the following insults, and see if you can guess whether they're genuine old fashioned insults from the olden days, or whether I've just made them up.

As I've mentioned in one of my previous posts, if someone is talking nonsense, then in China you might exclaim, "Dog fart!" to indicate that they're talking rubbish.

In the olden days, they didn't have any insults quite as amusing as "Dog fart!" but they did have the rather cool expression of 'flibbertygibbet'. To elaborate, in the olden days if you wanted to accuse someone of talking nonsense, you might say, "That's flibbertygibbet!"

True or false quiz: Cool foreign words

For the benefit of any non-English speakers reading this blog post, perhaps a more accurate title for this quiz would be 'Cool non-English words' because of course, for example, if you're German then some of the words in this quiz, such as (spoiler alert) 'verschlimmbessern', aren't foreign words!

Anyway, this week it's time for another true or false quiz, and this time the subject of the quiz is 'cool words from other languages'. Take a look at some of the following 'foreign words' and see if you can work out whether they're real translations, or if they're just silly fabricated words that I made up!

A cool translation that I really like is the Serbian word for walnut which translates literally as 'brain nut'. I've often thought that walnuts look like little miniature brains, and so apparently did the person who invented the Serbian language!

March 14th is National Potato Chip Day*¹ so to celebrate, this week the Charles Fudgemuffin blog takes a look at unusual crisp*² flavours from around the world. However, as I often like to do, I've made things a bit more interesting by turning it into a true or false quiz.

My cousin is a big fan of wildlife and nature, so he'll often relate unusual facts about nature which even a non-nature dude like myself find interesting. So as it's World Wildlife Day in a few day's time, I thought this would be an appropriate time to round up a collection of interesting facts on the theme of nature.

1) Fly me to the Moon

During the course of their lifetime, a swift will typically fly around 4.5 million kilometres, which is roughly equivalent to flying to the Moon and back six times!

To clarify things for the benefit of stupid people, swifts don't actually fly to the Moon - that would be ridiculous - but they cover the same distance as flying to the Moon and back six times.
