There are national days to celebrate anything and everything, so this week's blog post features another true or false quiz on the subject of national days.
1) January 31st - National Backwards Day
To celebrate National Backwards Day, simply do everything backwards! Or sdrawkcab!

2) February 3rd - National Eat Ice Cream For Breakfast Day
I have to admit that I love ice cream, but the thought of having ice cream for breakfast just seems weird.
Apparently though, somebody obviously thought that eating ice cream for breakfast was a good idea, because on February 3rd they dedicated an entire day to it!

The Chinese kanji for honesty. Or is it? Perhaps I just made this up as a sneaky bluff. |
3) April 30th - World Honesty Day
The last day of April is officially World Honesty Day.
Or is it?
Perhaps I just made that up. Hmm...

4) March 26th - National Make Up Your Own Holiday Day
If the national holidays listed so far aren't weird enough for you, then good news! On March 26th you can make up your own national day, as March 26th is a day dedicated to coming up with creative, unusual or even important things to celebrate!

5) May 9th - National Lost Sock Memorial Day
A day to remember lost socks!
Apparently, as well as being the day to say your goodbyes to missing socks, May 9th is also the day to put your left behind socks to good use. For example, by making sock puppets, or reusing them as dust rags!
Lost but not forgotten.

6) May 20th - National Be A Millionaire Day
I'm not quite sure how regular people can celebrate this day accurately. I mean, being a millionaire is not something you can just be at the snap of your fingers.
Well, unless you live in Venezuela...
At the time of writing, 20 pounds is worth more than 1,000,000 Venezuelan Bolivar Fuerte! So technically, if I went to live in Venezuela, I'd be a multi-millionaire! Although admittedly, emigrating to another country would be rather an extreme thing to do just to celebrate National Be A Millionaire Day.

7) September 14th - National Hug Your Hound Day
I'm sure for most dog owners every day is Hug Your Hound Day.
It should also be noted that you don't have to limit your celebrations of this day to hugs. I'm sure your dog wouldn't mind if you also took them for an extra long walk, or gave them their favourite treats.

8) December 8th - National Pretend To Be A Time Traveler Day
In actual fact, if you want to be a time traveler you don't need to pretend, because all of us are traveling through time ... in the forward direction, one second at a time.
But for any other time travel jumps, e.g. backwards, or several years into the future, then sadly time travel hasn't been invented yet, so you'll have to make do with pretending.

That's the end of the quiz. Scroll down the page to find out which of the above nationals days are actual real days, and which are fake inventions which I just made up...
Believe it or not, all of the national days listed above are real. By that I mean I didn't make them up. Obviously somebody else must have made them up at some point, but it wasn't me.
If you happen to be reading this on March 26th and want to get into the spirit of 'Make Up Your Own Holiday Day' by suggesting your own ideas for other crazy national days, then feel free to leave a suggestion in the comments.

Update: In the time between writing this blog post and publishing it, the exchange rate for the Venezuelan Bolivar Fuerte changed slightly, and in fact twenty pounds is now worth over 14 billion Venezuelan Bolivar Fuerte!
