10 cool internet Easter eggs (part 6)

Bruce Wayne's alter ego, junk food, and Antipodean chauffeured penguins

It's that time of year once again when I take a look at a selection of Easter eggs and hidden features found on various websites around the internet...

1) Hidden Dinosaur Game in Google Chrome

Google have included a hidden Dinosaur game in Google Chrome.
Google have definitely got a sense of fun because they've created a lot of hidden internet Easter eggs over the years.  It should come as little surprise then to learn that they've also included a hidden Easter egg in Google Chrome.

If you attempt to access a webpage while offline you'll receive the message, "Google Chrome can't display the webpage because your computer isn't connected to the internet," and this message will be accompanied by a stick figure dinosaur.  If you then press 'space' a game will commence where you control the dinosaur and have to jump over cacti and other obstacles to aim for the hightest score possible.

If you use Google Chrome then give it a try, but read the rest of this blog post first, as you need to be offline for the game to work!

10 cool internet Easter eggs (part 5)

Another batch of hidden internet surprises...

Real life Easter eggs...  Almost as cool as internet Easter eggs!
As an annual event I like to feature a selection of cool hidden Easter eggs found on the internet, and this year's round-up includes Easter eggs with themes such as monkeys, farts and a dastardly 'crime' captured on Google maps...

1) "Beam me up, Scotty!"

In previous round-ups I've featured a number of Star Wars related Easter eggs, but just so Star Trek fans don't feel left out, this first hidden Easter egg found on YouTube features a Star Trek theme.  It relates to the original series of Star Trek featuring characters such as Spock, Captain Kirk and Scotty, so younger readers may not understand it, but to unlock it simply go to YouTube and type 'Beam me up, Scotty!' into the YouTube search engine, and watch what happens to the videos brought up in the search results:

10 cool internet Easter eggs

A list of weird tricks (or 'Easter eggs' as they’re known) from around the web.

Read on to discover 10 cool Easter Eggs from around the web.
Update: This blog post was originally published over ten years ago. As a result, many of the Easter eggs featured are no longer active. I therefore recommend treating this blog post as a nostalgic trip down memory lane, rather than as a chance to actually try out the Easter eggs for yourself, because as I say, many of them no longer work.

I got a bit of a surprise the other day when I typed my blog address and instead of arriving at this blog, it brought up some weird website about Armageddon and the end of the world and stuff. It turned out that I had transposed the ‘s’ and ‘p’ of blogspot and for some weird reason that takes you to a website all about Armageddon.

Anyway, it got me thinking about other weird stuff on the internet, and so I decided to write a post on weird little tricks (or Easter eggs as they’re known) that you can find on the internet.
