This week the Charles Fudgemuffin blog takes another light-hearted look at paradoxes. |
1) The Hide And Seek Paradox
If you find the best hiding spot, you haven't found the best hiding spot.
2) The Failure Paradox
"If a book about failures doesn't sell, is it a success?"
...Jerry Seinfeld
3) The Negative Paradox
Is the next word you are going to say no?
4) The 'Choose A Lane' Paradox
One of these vehicles is going to have its authority questioned...
"Do not follow." "Keep left." |
5) The Men And Women Paradox
If women are always right, and men are always wrong, then if a man tells a woman she's right, is the man right or wrong?
6) The Internet Paradox
A lady I used to work with once got a text from her internet provider telling her:
"Your internet is currently down. Go to ***.com for further details."
7) The Newspaper Paradox
Here's a paradoxical photo that, if you try to analyse it, will have your head spinning in circles...
"Woman spotted yesterday reading today's paper." |
8) The Error Paradox
Take a look at the following sentence and see if you can spot the mistake. Or is it a mistake?
"Their are three errors in this this sentence."
When I tried to analyse that sentence, it sent me along the following logic loop...
"There are only two errors."
"So that means the statement is wrong, which is the third error."
"But if there are three errors, then that means the statement is correct."
"So that means there are only two errors, therefore the statement is wrong."
"So if the statement is wrong, that's the third error..."
"A squirrel walks up to a tree and says, 'I forgot to store acorns for the winter and now I am dead.'" A joke from the movie Up. |
9) The Rick Astley Paradox
If you ask Rick Astley to borrow his DVD of the movie Up, he won't give it to you because he's never gonna give you Up. However, by not giving you Up, he's letting you down.
10) The Advice Paradox
Finally, here's some advice. You shouldn't take advice from someone called Charles Fudgemuffin. Do you agree?

There are many light-hearted paradoxes in the world, and time travel is a subject which thows up many such paradoxes. It's also the theme of my short story 'Ranieri and the Eight Planets' which is available for kindle from Amazon.
You can find more light-hearted paradoxes in my previous blog posts:
Paradoxes (part 1)
Paradoxes (part 3)
Editor's note: "Charles, this is only part 2, so how have you included a link to part 3?"
Charles: "I'm not sure. It must be some sort of time travel paradox."
