10 devious riddles and confusing conundrums

It's been quite a while since I last featured any riddles on the Charles Fudgemuffin blog, but that's an oversight that I intend to rectify today.

Here's one of my own minted coins from 78 B.C.,
back when my great great great great great great
grandfather first established the Fudgemuffin Mint.
That's just a long-winded way of saying that this week's blog post features another round-up of devious riddles and confusing conundrums for you to solve.

1) An expert visits the Middle East and claims to have seen many ancient artefacts.

He claims to have seen several mummies dating as far back as 200 B.C., several coins dated 78 B.C., and tools from approximately 500 B.C.

How can you be certain that his claims aren't true?

2) Why can’t a man living in Australia be legally buried in Canada?

3) What belongs to you, but other people use it more than you?

4) There is an English word in which the first two letters describe a male, the first three letters describe a female, the first four letters describe a great man, and the whole word describes a great woman.

Mistaken reader: "Is it these frogs? These frogs have a bed."
Charles: "No, unfortunately they can't run - they
can only hop - so I'm afraid that's not correct."

What is the word?

5) I can run but can't walk. I have a bed but never sleep. I have a mouth but never talk.

What am I?

6) Is it illegal for a man to marry his widow’s sister?

7) A woman had two sons who were born in the same hour on the same day in the same year. However, they weren't twins.

How is this possible?

Santa: "Thanks to my travels around the world every
Christmas Eve, I know the answer to riddle number 8!"
Strange reindeer: "And the location of your home
should also give you a clue to riddle number 9."

8) Alfred was born on December 25th, yet his birthday always falls in the summer?

How?

9) Sidney owns a home that is postioned so that all four sides face directly south.

Where is his home located?

10) A woman shoots her husband. She then puts him underwater for five minutes. Finally, she hangs him. Later, they both go out for a meal.

How is this possible?

Answers:

An old coin.
1) An expert visits the Middle East and claims to have seen many ancient artefacts.

He claims to have seen several mummies dating as far back as 200 B.C., several coins dated 78 B.C., and tools from approximately 500 B.C.

How can you be certain that his claims aren't true?

Coins were never dated B.C.

2) Why can’t a man living in Australia be legally buried in Canada?

A living man cannot be legally buried anywhere.

3) What belongs to you, but other people use it more than you?

Your name.
I'm not sure where this river is located,
but it looks absolutely beautiful.

4) I can run but can't walk. I have a bed but never sleep. I have a mouth but never talk.

What am I?

A river.

5) There is an English word in which the first two letters describe a male, the first three letters describe a female, the first four letters describe a great man, and the whole word describes a great woman.

What is the word?

Heroine.

6) Is it illegal for a man to marry his widow’s sister?

No, but since he is dead it would be extremely difficult!

Duckling triplets.

Please note, these aren't the triplets from the riddle. You
probably already worked that out, seeing as how these are
ducklings, and women generally don't give birth to ducklings.

7) A woman had two sons who were born in the same hour on the same day in the same year. However, they weren't twins.

How is this possible?

They were two of a set of triplets.

8) Alfred was born on December 25th, yet his birthday always falls in the summer?

How?

Alfred was born in Australia.

9) Sidney owns a home that is postioned so that all four sides face directly south.

Where is his home located?

His house is located exactly at the North Pole.

Editor's note: "Wow! I never knew anyone actually lived at the North Pole! Doesn't he get cold? How does he get his food? Does he get it delivered?"
Charles: "No, it's not real. It's just a fictional scenario for the purposes of the riddle."
Editor: "Oh, right. Sorry."

A photographer,
presumably photographed by another photographer.

10) A woman shoots her husband. She then puts him underwater for five minutes. Finally, she hangs him. Later, they both go out for a meal.

How is this possible?

The woman is a photographer.
