True or false: Six scary 'facts' for Halloween (part 2)

It's Halloween in a few days' time, so with that in mind my latest short story, 'Burn The Witch', has a kind of a scary theme to it!

'Burn The Witch'
The latest short story from Charles Fudgemuffin.
But the Halloween theme isn't over yet, because to continue the scariness, this week's blog post features a true or false quiz with a scary Halloween theme.

Take a look at the following facts and bluffs, and see if you can suss out which claims are true, and which claims are nothing but a devious bluff...

1) Scary Creepy director

In the movie Halloween, the character Laurie Strode was named after the director John Carpenter's first girlfriend ... which I find a little bit creepy to name the slasher victim after your ex-girlfriend.

True or false?

2) Sweet kids!

In a recent survey, only seven percent of kids said they would keep all their sweets to themselves if they received lots of Halloween treats.

Rather surprisingly, a very generous 66 percent said they would share their treats with their family, and 64 percent said they would share them with their friends. 26 percent even said they would share their treats with their teachers!

True or false?

Editor's note: "Charles, why did you include a photo?
You've given the answer away, you fool!"
Charles: "Oops, sorry! Hopefully the readers won't notice."

3) Blue is the new orange

As I'm sure everyone can imagine, pumpkin sales increase over Halloween, as people rush out to buy them to make lanterns.

A traditional Halloween pumpkin will typically be orange. However, did you know that pumpkins can also be blue, green and even white!?

Or can they? Perhaps I just made that up as a sneaky bluff.

You decide...

True or false?

4) I want to suck your blood!

Vampire bat.
Vampire bats are real! However, they don't come from Transylvania. Vampire bats are found in South and Central America, and they get their name because they feed on the blood of cattle, horses and birds.

True or false?

5) Thieving parents

90% of parents admit to stealing treats from their kids Halloween trick or treat bags!

True or false?

6) Big Brother is watching you

"Any sign of that pigeon yet?"
"No, he must be miles away."
Most of the facts and bluffs so far have focused on scary subjects with a Halloween theme. However, this final fact is scary for different reasons.

In London, there are CCTV cameras almost everywhere in the city. In fact in 2015, there were a total of 422,000 cameras!

Some people might find the idea of 422,000 cameras watching their every move somewhat scary. However, I'm sure all law-abiding citizens will no doubt be delighted to learn that their privacy is being sacrificed to ensure big brother is keeping us safe from threats to society, such as silly memes and mean words on the internet.

Thankfully, the cameras do their job perfectly, and since their introduction crime has become a thing of the past with murders, knife attacks and acid attacks all eliminated! And all thanks to the 422,000 cameras!

True or false?

Answers:

1) Scary Creepy director

In the movie Halloween, the character Laurie Strode was named after the director John Carpenter's first girlfriend.

True or false?

True - If you guessed 'true' then award yourself two points because you're right on two counts. It's true that the director John Carpenter named the character Laurie Strode after his ex-girlfriend, and it's also true that I find that a little bit creepy!

However, I have to say I personally found this creepy behaviour by the director very surprising given the usual high standards of morality that Hollywood usually follows. #sarcasm

Sweets are for sharing...
...according to 66% percent of kids.

2) Sweet kids!

Only seven percent of kids said they would keep all their sweets to themselves if they received lots of Halloween treats.

True or false?

True - It's reassuring to discover that so many children nowadays are kind and generous. Well, either that or they're very good liars!

3) Blue is the new orange

Pumpkins can also be blue, green and even white.

True or false?

True - Observant readers may have noticed that the photo accompanying this fact featured blue, green and white pumpkins, which may have given people a slight clue, so apologies if this ruined your quiz solving pleasure.

4) I want to suck your blood!

Vampire bats are real.

True or false?

True - Vampire bats are indeed real, and even more frightening is that as well as feeding on the blood of cattle, horses and birds, they have even been known to bite humans from time to time. People have even died from rabies after being bitten by vampire bats! However, this is fairly rare as apparently only 0.5% of vampire bats are infected with rabies.

5) Thieving parents

90% of parents admit to stealing treats from their kids Halloween trick or treat bags.

True or false?

True - Hmm, something doesn't add up. If 66% of kids are really generous and share their Halloween treats with their family, then surely parents shouldn't have to steal treats from their kids! Perhaps the survey people spoke to different kids that didn't belong to the parents from the second survey. Or perhaps we just can't trust surveys! Who knows?

We see everything.

6) Big Brother is watching you

London has 422,000 CCTV cameras.

True or false?

This one is true and false. It's true that London has 422,000 CCTV cameras, but sadly, it's false that crime has been eliminated. Incredibly, crime still exists, despite the streets of London becoming progressively Orwellian.
