Random thoughts (part 15)

This week the Charles Fudgemuffin blog takes a look at a selection of random subjects, including clocks, cars, and diamond mountains.

"Hmm, will this be enough?"
To get the ball rolling here's a question which I have often wondered...

1) Why do local councils always have enough asphalt for speed bumps, but never enough to fill potholes?

2) Only in math(s) problems can you buy forty water melons, and nobody asks what is wrong with you.

3) Cars these days have far too many gadgets. For example, I tried to reverse, and it played a video of someone getting run over!

A stopped clock.*

Editor: "Charles, that clock isn't broken. It works perfectly fine."
Charles: "Shush! Don't spoilt it! It's a photo, so the readers will never know."

* Legal disclaimer: Actual functionality may vary.
4) A stopped clock is right twice a day, but a clock which loses one second every year is only right once every 43,200 years.

Editor's note: "Charles, you didn't provide the math(s) to confirm your claim."
Charles: "No problem. Using the twelve hour time system with A.M. and P.M., each time is repeated twice a day, so no matter what time the clock is stuck at, it will be correct twice each day."
Editor: "I meant the clock which loses one second every year. How did you calculate the 43,200 years?"
Charles: "Oh, well, er ... it would take too long to explain here. **shifty eyes**"

5) You know what I miss? Turning something on and it would just work. No registering your device. No downloading updates. You would just plug it in and it did the thing it was supposed to do.

6) You know you're old when a website asks you to verify your date of birth and you spin the wheel like you're on Wheel Of Fortune.

Editor: "You also know you're old when you start reminiscing about the old days when things would just work."
Charles: "Fair point."

Here's the proof.
7) Have you ever noticed that good and evil are both only one letter away from God and the devil?

8) Does anyone else only get out of bed in multiples of 0 or 5?

For example, if it was 6:21, I would think, "No, I've missed it. I'll wait until 6:25 now."

9) Alcohol is a perfect solvent.

It dissolves marriages, families, and careers.

Please note, this is just the peak of the mountain, because if
we included the entire mountain, the photo would be too big.

10) Finally, to switch tone for a moment, let's end things with a metaphor...

Imagine a mountain made of pure diamond. It's so big that it takes a day to climb it. Every hundred years, a small bird comes and scratches its beak on the mountain.

When the entire mountain has been worn away, the first second of eternity will have passed.
