Interactive 404 pages

If you type in a dead link or a mistyped link, most websites will redirect you to their 404 page. Most 404 pages are fairly unremarkable, but some websites have put a lot of effort into their 404 pages.

Here's a selection of 404 pages with an interactive element to them...

1) Pac-Man

This 404 page from Blue Fountain Media will appeal to Pac-Man fans. It's a playable Pacman maze in the shape of a 404!

"Waka waka waka waka..."

2) Space invaders

Here's another 404 page which will appeal to fans of retro video gaming. Kualo's 404 page let's you play a game of space invaders.

Sadly, the mystery ship across the top hasn't been included.

3) Scatter the dots

Hotdot's website features a game of scatter the dots.

For the benefit of anyone who doesn't know how to play, here are the instructions:

1) Click on the dots to scatter them.

A 404 made of dots. Scatter them with a click of your mouse.

4) Vectors

Figma's 404 page allows you to play around with vectors to reshape the 404 image.

An interactive 404 ... literally!

5) Fire Brent!

Finally, Whitespark's 404 page takes you to a photo of the person allegedly responsible for the faulty link. Apparently, the responsibility lies with an employee by the name of Brent. But the good news is that the 404 page gives you the choice as to whether Whitespark should fire Brent or not!

Try it out!

Does Brent deserve to lose his job?
You decide...

That's it for this week, but if you know of any noteworthy 404 pages, or if your own website has a cool 404 page, feel free to leave a comment with a link in the replies.

Unfortunately I'm not a coder, so I'm unable to do anything interactive with my own 404 page. However, I do know lots about radishes, so here's a link to a fascinating blog post called '101 Uses For Radishes (including six the government don't want you to know about!)':
