Space and the Universe

May 2nd is National Space Day, so this week the Charles Fudgemuffin blog takes a lighthearted look at space.

If any astronomers have arrived here hoping for a serious discussion on space and the universe, then I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed, because all of the following memes and jokes are silly and frivolous, and definitely not meant to be taken seriously.

1) The Milky Way

To start things off, here's a rare image of the Milky Way photographed from Mars...

It's a shame the photo didn't also include a Starburst or a Galaxy, but at least it gave me a few Snickers.

2) Space sickness

If you get sick in space are you under the weather or over the weather?

3) The Sun

The Sun is a star, so why doesn't it look like this?

Editor's note: "It looks like the sky was made in China."
Charles: "If it was made in China, it would break after a month."
Editor: "Fair point."

4) Space vacuum

Why are dogs afraid to go into space?
Because it's a vacuum.

5) Baby robins?

I have a 'Space and the Universe' app installed on my android tablet and this was one of the 'space' related facts...

A 'space' related fact, allegedly.

"Baby robins eat 14 feet of earthworms every day."

In other 'space related news', the capital of Nepal is Kathmandu, and an ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.

Space app programmer: "Baby robins? What have they got to do with space?"
Space app editor: "Shush! If we put an image of space in the background then hopefully no-one will notice."
Space app programmer: "I wouldn't be so sure about that. Apparently, Charles Fudgemuffin has downloaded our app, and he's a real sharp cookie."

6) Alien joke

Two astronauts are on a space station...

First astronaut: "I can't find any milk for my coffee."
Second astronaut: "In space no-one can, here use cream."

7) Fun fact

This next fact sounds incredible, but it's true!

2 > 1

There are more hydrogen atoms in a single molecule of water than there are stars in the entire solar system!

8) Telescope joke

What did the celestial body say to the good-looking telescope?
Hubble, hubble!

9) Greek astrologers

Finally, here's how ancient Greek astrologers named the constellations...

Billy the goat: "Wow! It's like looking in a mirror!"
